TAMAR & JO
Sync or Swim
Sync or Swim is a vibrant, intergenerational dance theatre piece co-created with professional and community dancers, choreographed by Jo Ashbridge. Inspired by the unlikely combination of synchronised swimming and 90s party, the piece uses simple yet impressively crafted dance, comedy, colourful costume and a brilliant soundtrack of 90s bangers to create a fun and accessible experience for participants and audiences alike. It explores themes of community, togetherness and belonging through the sportsmanship and uniformity of synchronised swimming, juxtaposed yet elevated through moments of joy, individuality and partying. Tamar & Jo have developed their highly successful engagement practice through their down-to-earth, playful approach to community dance.
Performances of Sync or Swim at Hull’s Freedom Festival 2024 - featuring 65 community, professional and youth performers - saw record audiences at Stage @TheDock, with approximately 2200 across the weekend. Sync or Swim will be bookable as a co-creation project from Spring 2024 onwards.
